Technology making us less secure

If you have never had a virus or malicious piece of code or web page on your computer then you are luckier then me. The net is like an open season for people trying to mess with your computer in some way. As speeds get faster it seems it allows for this type of attacks and risk of infection on a larger scale.
As you would know there is also a greater spread of information. Once where you would have never known things exist all you need to do now is a search and you will probably find it. This type of information at our fingertips can make us more informed for sure, but it also is used by the less scrupulous to gain information and tools to breach security in more ways then we think.
Identity theft and Phishing are terms you would probably be familiar with but the security issue less of us are probably aware of is old fashioned lock picking.
Locksmith BrisbaneLocks secure everything from our homes and business to government buildings, bicycles, cars, lifts, mail boxes, security screen doors etc. Locks come in all forms. Security of locks - Some are good, some not so good. Your locksmith will sell you a basic lock which will be of basic security, or he can sell you a good lock that has a high security cylinder. The high security locks available in Brisbane are really quite good.
There is a wealth of information on how to break into different types of locks, cars and just about anything on the net. Some of this information is pretty poor, but some is pretty hi tech. In fact there are groups out there who pick locks for sport and post their detailed results for you to see.
The information of how to pick locks or break into a certain car for instance is good, but what adds to the power of this information is the availability of specialised locksmith and lock picking tools.
If you need to break into a specific car, do a search and you will probably find a specific tool designed for that car. Some tools are very clever and hi tech. Whats more they are cheap! Competition from many different sellers makes them readily available to anyone and cheap to buy.
There are better locks that you can buy that are more secure. Contact a Locksmith Brisbane to show you better more secure options, or your local locksmith in your area. As there are good security options for many applications.
http://www.mobilelocksmithbrisbane.net.auMost locks are made to be cost effective. This is probably not the first or best criteria when making a lock. Locks you would think should be made to be secure. You would expect that manufacturers would be doing everything possible to make their locks more secure. While this is true of an exceptionally small number of manufacturers, most locks are still made to be price friendly to a consumer. This seems to lead to the majority of locks being basic and easy to open.
The Yale lock design and the wafer or disc type of lock are used in the majority of lock systems in Brisbane. Information on these types of locks is particularly abundant, but so is information and tools on a number of higher security locks.

It may be time to review your salary sacrifice agreement - Call Integrity  today!

Two recent changes to the law mean that you should have a closer look at your salary sacrifice.
There is an increase to the super guarantee rate from 1 July 2013. The increase is from 9% to 9.25% – this can have a huge impact even though it seems insignificant. The problem is concessional contribution caps.

Let’s look at 54 year old Johnny who runs his own mobile locksmith Brisbane business. He earns $160,000 p/annum. Before July, Johnny’s employer paid the SG amount of 9% ($14,400) and Johnny salary sacrificed $10,600 to use his full concession cap. From 1 July, Johnny will need to reduce the amount he sacrifices by $400 or breach his cap.

It’s such a minor amount but without this change the ATO will include the excess $400 contribution in Johnny’s assessable income, which will then be taxed at Johnny’s marginal tax rate with additional penalty interest charges applying. If you have a salary sacrifice arrangement in place and are close to your contribution cap, then the increase to the SG might be enough for you to breach your limits.

The second change relates to the increase in the concessional contributions cap. This financial year, the concessional contributions cap is $35,000 for those 59 and over on 30 June 2013 and $25,000 for everyone else. The higher cap will allow an additional $10,000 to be salary sacrificed into super for those eligible.

Alternatives to Storing Away Keys
Welcome to SMA Locksmiths Brisbane Post Page. We hope you enjoy.

Losing keys is a major inconvenience to most of us but, forgetting where you placed your keys is a fact of life for most of us. Fortunately, there are many things you can do without hiding keys  to prevent, or reduce the chance of losing your keys.

As technology improves, we have integrated the use of the internet with smartphones. We are now able to employ a variety of keyless entry systems to make it even more difficult for thieves to gain access into our homes. Quite a few keyless entry systems are being utilised by businesses for a long time and the technology has been developed for home use.

Cell Phone Locks
A cell phone lock is a lock fitted to your door and that can be opened or closed by the use of a smartphone. Some systems only have a lock that you fit to your existing lock and can be removed when you move.  On the other hand, there are systems which are integrated into your home, allowing you not only to lock your doors but control other functions, such as;  your lights, thermostat and other appliances within your home, whether you are home or not.

Keypads
You can install a keypad system attached to your door where you can simply key in a code and your door will open. The flaw with this is that you can forget your access code and lock yourself out of your own home.

The latest in modern technology, blue tooth stickers are small stickers that you can attach to anything, including your keys, so that you can locate them when you can’t find them. With a smartphone App which turns your phone into a radar screen, you can find anything with the sticker attached to it within a range of up to 100 feet. These handy little stickers have many applications, as well as,  not only help you find your lost keys, you can even attach them to your pets or your children when you take them shopping.

Four (4) Easy Stepts to Protect Your Home - Locksmiths Brisbane

Easy Steps to Protect Your Home.
Hi and Welcome to SMA Locksmith Brisbane post page. We hope you enjoy.

It is always better to change the locks especially if you have moved into a new property. The new locks will provide you with higher security and peace of mind.

Most of the break-ins occurs through Windows. Burglars do not take much time to cut open a screen and crawl through window. They can also break the glass. Make your windows secure by installing an alarm system with sensor. Install burglar proof panes which are not easy to break.
If you are planning to go on vacation or on long leave don’t let other people know the property is unoccupied. If you live alone take extra precaution. Be aware of people moving from one home to other. They may be trying to get an idea about your house for burglary.

Include Monitored Alarm Systems for your home security. Such systems are linked to your telephone or internet connection. During security breach the monitoring facility is signalled and will activate an emergency call. All the contacts in the emergency list are contacted immediately.
Burglaries target such homes which are less secured or easy to break-in. Take steps to secure your property. Take help of professional locksmiths. A locksmith will survey your entire property for any security lapses and advice steps for securing the property which can be installing a burglary alarm or changing locks.
Do not make your house an easy target for burglars

When a burglary takes place people tend to panic and take mistakes to the advantage of theif. Stay Calm at all times. If you discover the theivies are inside your home, DO NOT ENTER inside the house. Call police for help or run to a neighbour’s home. Do not try to take on the intruder/s as your possessions are not worth more than your health or life. Do not touch anything. Your home becomes a crime scene and you need to give the police a chance to look for clues as to the perpetrator. Call police immediately.

5 Myths about Home Security

Some experts estimate that around 12% of houses in Australia are protected by monitored security systems. Nonetheless a burglary occurs every 60 seconds in Australia.
The Five common myths cited by victims of burglary are misconceptions. These are as follows:
Believe it or not, home security does not cost an arm and a leg. In fact some home security companies offer a basic level of monitoring for around $40 per month. You should factor in the discount you will get on your home insurance when assessing the complete cost of Home Security. Some insurance companies offer up to 30% discount on their insurance premiums. So you may find that the security system pays for itself in insurance discounts.
If you are technologically savvy you can design your own home security system without needing it to be connected to a monitoring station. Since no-one likes to pay ongoing monthly fees for home security, that is fine.  As an alternatively you may be able to focus on designing a system of sensors that sends alerts to your email address or mobile phone when sensors are activated. You can also set up surveillance cameras that can be viewed remotely.
Most monitored home security systems are now designed to accommodate for at-home pets. The sensors are simply placed in an area above the pet’s height, or may be put at a setting that detects movement over a certain size. Eg, some motion sensors can be set off if they detect motion of an object over 50kg. If you have pets, talk to a security company. There are probably many options available to you.

Tough financial times are making more people resort to desperate criminal measures. The average person will lose from $1000-$5000 from a burglary. Spending money improving your home security is like buying insurance. Even if you don’t get burgled you will at least have peace of mind.

This is another one of the biggest home security myths we’ve come across lately.  While yes the alarm company does make money off of the monthly monitoring they are also providing an invaluable service.  Home alarm monitoring is PROVEN to prevent burglaries and even save lives.  Ever heard a 000 call from a burglary victim?  It’s not fun stuff.  The monitoring station is there so you don’t have to call police or if you can’t get to a phone.  If the siren doesn’t scare off intruders, the sound of police sirens certainly will.  Not to mention alarm monitoring can keep your house from burning down in a fire or your family succumbing to carbon monoxide poisoning.  Not to scare you, but alarm monitoring is one of the most underrated services around today
